Our sawmill solutions range from 100 m3 to 1000 m3. We specialise in bandsaw and circular saw combinations for smaller and medium-sized logs. Our production estimates are based on the performance of real sawing lines we’ve installed for our existing customers.

Designed and Built In-House for the last 40 years

All material handling equipment, including stackers and destackers, are designed and built in-house to suit the mill layout. We build tough African machines in Africa. Our sawmill equipment has been for sale for the last 40 years, and we’ve successfully built and sold hundreds of timber machines across the globe over the previous 40 years.

Pinnacle SA's New Era Design Philosophy

While the New Era design philosophy seems obvious and logical, it’s surprising how few machines are designed using this approach. Like they say, common sense is not so common. While complex control mechanisms work well for high-volume machinery, they add a layer of complexity that makes operating and maintaining machines in a sawmill more expensive. At Pinnacle SA, we believe that if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. We design the most cost-effective solution to get the job done.

What is New Era Design?

Every time you see the “New Era” badge on one of your sawmills, you can rest assured in the knowledge that we’ve applied the design philosophy to make your sawmill machinery and equipment easy to operate and maintain.

Let’s break down exactly what we mean by sharing our design philosophy from a practical point of view.

40 years of sawmill equipment development has taught us to design with intention to:

Add only what is absolutely necessary. Use as few parts as possible. Fewer parts means fewer things that can break.
Manufacture using as few custom parts as possible. Source off-the-shelf components that are easy to fit.It’s easier to fix a machine if the parts you need can be sourced locally. It also brings down the cost of manufacturing the machine in the first place.
Use heavy components that are made for durability.Heavy components ensures machine stability and longevity.

Our approach removes the need for expensive training and expensive specialised labour.

Log Scanner and Sorter

Allows for accurate scanning of a sawmill or lumber yard log intake or throughput. The Log Scanner and Sorter checks the straightness of a specific piece of material and then sorts it accordingly.

Aligns, unscrambles, singulates and elevates logs from Logdeck to machine.

New Era Resaw

Primary breakdown saw with fast-loading V-chain feeds logs directly onto the sharp chain infeed. Sideboards held up on the outfeed with side pressure rollers are deposited behind the headrig or further on as required.

New Era Board Edger/ Edger Light

Robust machines – perfect for any recovery line. The precision machined spacers allow for high and continuous accuracy.

Horizontal Finger Joiner

The Pinnacle Horizontal Finger Joiner cuts finger joins into the end of a piece of material before automatically joining them together.

Trim Saw

The Pinnacle Trim Saw cuts the ends of lumber into specific lengths and at specific angles. The Trim Saw is an excellent cross-cut when many same-length pieces are needed out of longer lengths.

Pallet Stringer

Cuts notches into the ends of wood so that the wood can be assembled into a pallet. The Pinnacle Pallet Stringer Machine merges into Pusher Crosscut and a Nailing Station.

Pusher Crosscut

Ideal for cutting materials to length, mainly on wood across the grain. The cutting edge of each tooth is angled in an alternating pattern. This design allows each tooth to act akin to a knife edge to slice through the wood smoothly in contrast to a rip saw, which tears along the grain. A high-speed, accurate saw that increases production throughput.

Stacker

The Pinnacle Stacker receives cut lumber and stacks it neatly. This is achieved through the uniformity of the stack and stickers, which in turn maximizes kiln capacity.

Tilt Hoist De-Stacker

The Pinnacle Tilt Hoist Destacker automates the feed process of a stack of timber into a line for further processing. A simple yet effective solution to integrate continuous timber feed into a system.

Rotary Block Saw

The Pinnacle Block Saw is a single bladed, carousel-style saw, specifically intended to increase piece count output for stringer and block pallet manufacturing. The Block Saw is used to cut timber into cuboid shapes.

Why do we call it New Era?

The New Era design philosophy was born from a need to step back from the sawmill manufacturing industry’s direction. The prevailing design philosophy maximises profit instead of customer satisfaction. Companies try to lock their customers into a long-term relationship by selling a sawmill that only the OEM can service because the parts are highly customised or patented.

This approach might work well in developed economies where parts are easy to source, but a different approach is necessary in emerging markets. For emerging markets, you’d want to use parts that are easy to source. You want to build machines that are easy to operate and maintain because highly specialised labour isn’t available.

That’s why the New Era matters. We believe that by employing simple design principles we will help change the entire industry. This might be a bold claim, but it’s derived from straightforward logic that’s easy to follow.
